Mattia Bartolucci is Sales Manager of Italian Wine Importers and we asked him to put together a six bottle pack of the wines he likes to drink. It is great value at $169 (over 20% off retail price).
Mattia is a proud Italian from the Emilia Romagna area of Italy and the package he put together highlights the diversity of wines from the far north to the south of Italy. There are 3 whites and 3 reds all from different regions, starting from north to south packaged with a 25% discount
His choice highlights the different regional wines and terroir and may include wine varietals you have not tried before.
1 – Massimo Rivetti Arneis – ‘I wanted to start with this wine from Piemonte because it was a great surprise for me, being Italian I never really enjoyed Arneis but the first time I tasted the Rivetti Arneis I fell in love for it. Amazing in all season, it would suit any seafood dish but also some salumi and appetizers. Great the way to start the journey from North to South Italy’
2 – Visintini Friulano Amphora – ‘From one of Italy’s finest white wine producing areas this wine has the ancient amphora touch producing a wine which has excellent fruit and boosted by compexity. I just love the traditional aspects of this wine’
3 – Alessandro di Camporeale Benede’ Catarratto – ‘For the South one of the best representation for me is the great Catarratto from Sicily produced by Alessandro di Camporeale. Small producer with organic winemaking and very young winemaker that represent an unusual terroir of Sicily with an unique microclimate. The wine is really approachable and it is a perfect way to start any dinner ‘
4- Weingut Niklas Lagrein – ‘Going back to the North I wanted to choose the Lagrein from Niklas, a great expression of the terroir of the Dolomites, very different from what most people know of Italian wines therefore chosen to showcase a region that is probably more well known for whites. Would suit stew and gamey dishes ‘
5 – Terenzi Morellino di Scansano – ‘Tuscany is very important for Italian Wine Importers and I felt we should represent it and have chosen the Morellino di Scansano to showcase something that doesn’t come from the usual regions of Chianti or Montalcino. I love the juiciness of this wine, it is really characteristic and it makes it match with pretty much all dishes with meats ‘
6 – Fabiana Negroamaro – ‘For the red of the South I have chosen the Negroamaro from Fabiana, a great expression of the warm climate of Puglia. Together with an outstanding fruit profile you have a surprisingly amount of freshness that makes it really delicious and incredibly easy to drink, no wonder it is one of our best sellers. Love it with all meats or even as an aperitif at the beginning of a great night”
