La Fornace Brunello di Montalcino 2017 – Red wine

This is a wonderful winemaking family, the Gianetti’s in Montalcino, who are compassionate, passionate and just simpatici about winemaking. From peasant roots (“Mezzadri” in Italian meaning share croppers) the family has been on the land in Montal-cino for many generations. It was only in 1964 that they were able to purchase the land and realise their dream of creating fine wine under their own label of La For-nace. The wines from La Fornace are starting to make a great impression on the world stage.

Description

From the great 2016 vintage this wine is an artisanal traditional Brunello.  The blackberry, walnut, floral and black-cherry aromas are so prevalent and vivid. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins that are polished and energetic. Tangy, citrusy acidity ties up the palate at the end. Lots of dark fruit and wet earth and dried flowers at the finish.

95 points James Suckling
