The Wines We Drink @ Home!

Discovering and enjoying the wines from our portfolio has been a passion that I share and have have enjoyed with my wife Chloe! From the top to the bottom of Italy and over into France we have enjoyed the journey and meeting the people who make Italian Wine Importers!

This is a selection of wines that we love to drink and share together and with friends at home. We have discounted the retail value by 25% to give you a great value six bottle package at only $186.

Mirabella Franciacorta Brut:
Friday nights always start with a simple question once the working week is completed… “Amore what do you want to drink?..and invariably the answer is Franciacorta. The Champagne of Italy, Franciacorta is a classic sparkling wine with fine bubbles, elegance and sophistication.

Allessandro di Camporeale Grillo:
Having the pleasure to spend time and tour with winemaker Benedetto Allesandro on his recent visit to Australia and enjoy his families wines from the high altitude vineyards of western Sicily was one of our highlights for 2019. This Grillo is our favourite expression of this amazing microclimate and interesting organic wines. A favourite listing in many of the great restaurants we work with in Australia such as Tipo, Fratelli Paradiso and Totti’s this wine is an ultimate crowd pleaser. The 2018 vintage was awarded the maximum 3 Glasses in the most prestigious Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso. It displays great elegant, perfectly balanced tropical notes such as papaya and mango as well as citrus flavours like grapefruit. Persistent acidity is matched with a hint of saltiness and a powerful long finish.

Chateau Barbabelle Fleuri Rose:
Being married to a Frenchie you better enjoy Rose’ because visiting family in the summer there that is what you will be drinking! On one trip, friends in Paris introduced to a Rose’ made by a young female winemaker from the rolling hills of Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence….it was their new favourite….and it was delicious! Unbeknown to us Carolyna and Alan were negotiating to import following a trip to ProWein….it was meant to be! The pale pink colour is so inviting. The aromas of white peach and raspberry are matched with a perfect touch floral notes and fresh pear and raspberry flavours in the palate highlight this great young winemaker’s talent.

Domaine Jean-Philippe Padie Petit Tarreau:
Following on the French theme this natural producer from the wild Roussillon region of south-western France produces a wine we love to drink! A blend of Syrah and Carignan grown organically and produced using the most minimal of intervention. Aged in concrete to preserve the purity of fruit and express the terroir this fresh lively wine red is great any time of the day! The vibrant fresh red fruit and cherry notes accompanied by silky tannins and lively acid make a  perfectly balanced wine. A true expression of what minimal intervention wine making should be. Drink it at around 16 to 18 degrees and it comes alive!

Marabino ‘Rosso di Contrada’ Nero d’Avola:
Returning to Sicily, Chloe and I were fortunate enough to pass our honeymoon at the estate of Pierpaolo Messina, winemaker and proprietor of Marabino. Having imported Pierpaolo’s wines for many years now, it was a joy to be in this beautiful corner of Sicily, near the city of Noto where Nero d’Avola is king. There we enjoyed his wines, hospitality and company and forged a great friendship! His wines are organic and biodynamic and are free of chemicals. The harmony he manages in the vineyard translates effortlessly to the bottle. His field blend Nero d’Avola, the Rosso di Contrada is a joy to drink.

Rivetto Langhe Nebbiolo:
Rivetto’s Langhe Nebbiolo invariably is the wine I drink if Chloe’ lets me choose the Friday night vino. A new arrival to our portfolio last year the wines from Enrico are rockstar to put it mildly! The first certified biodynamic producer in Barolo he committed himself wholeheartedly to the principles of traditional farming and minimal intervention winemaking. The way I love it and so do many of you from the success that we have had with his Nebbiolo and Barolo. The aromas of cherry, tobacco and roses are rich and deep with a freshness which invites you into the glass. The palate is silky smooth with fine tannins concentrated fresh fruit balanced with acidity and length. Together all create a harmonious Langhe expression. Great with food, cheese or an episode of Money Heist!
